Sean Hodge Takes Over as Editor of FreelanceSwitch

For those of you in the know, you’ve probably noticed that Amanda Hackwith has moved to the Rockable Press side of our business following the release of her successful book Freelance Confidential: The Whole Truth on Freelancing. She’s still a full-time Editor at Envato, but is now putting her skills to use creating books and other Premium educational content.
I’ve taken over Editing FreelanceSwitch, which is really exciting. I’ve been in the drivers seat for a couple months now, so things are running smoothly. No big speed bumps in the transition. I’d love to hear any suggestion you all have, and I’ll drop some information about myself here so you can get to know me.
5 Ways to Make an Editor Delete Your Email
I’m not a huge magazine editor. In fact, I typically imagine myself on the other side of the fence – where I’m frantically trying to say something and be employable at the same time. However, from working as the editor of NETTUTS.com, I’ve learned a few things. I’ve realized that, out of the dozens of inquiries I receive in a given week, 80% of them are deleted (usually after a standard form rejection response). It all comes back to Pareto’s 80/20 principle, doesn’t it? In this article, I’ll list the top five mistakes you can make when “selling yourself” to an editor like me.
Number 1: Don’t Make Me Work
Welcome Glen Stansberry, The New FSw Editor
For some time now Skellie has been the editor here at FreelanceSwitch. As I’m sure you will agree she has done an amazing job with FSw, and helped take the site from strength to strength. In fact she’s so good that when a new management position came up at Envato, we just had to ask her to take it on.
So sadly Skellie is moving on from FreelanceSwitch. She tells me she’ll still be checking in daily as, like me, she’s pretty attached to FSw by now.
Happily we can now announce that we have a new editor to captain the FSw ship. We are so pleased that we were able to ask someone of his talents to lead the FSw team and he actually said yes!! That person is Glen Stansberry.
If you don’t already know Glen, chances are you’ve come past some of his work. He’s the brains behind the LifeRemix Network, LifeDev, and Webjackalope. He’s a working web developer, an all-round nice guy and supremely talented individual in all things freelance.
So welcome Glen, and thanks for coming on board the HMS FreelanceSwitch!
