9 Tips For Tracking Project Expenses
When you’re working on a project for a client, you sometimes have to spend a little money in order to get to the point where you can invoice your client. Maybe you have to register a domain name. Maybe you have to pay for a stock image. Maybe you have to subcontract part of the project. No matter what expenses are a part of your project, it’s important to keep close track of them so that you can report them on your invoice and get your client to cover them.
Put It On Plastic: A Freelancer’s Credit Card
After doing my taxes this year, I’m firmly of the opinion that every freelancer needs a debit or credit card just for business expenses. A separate checking account for your freelancing business — and the debit card that comes with it — is ideal, but for freelancers who aren’t ready to do that, having a credit card that is used exclusively for office supplies, business lunches and all those other expenses you can write off on your taxes can pay off.
