Google's blogspot is getting better all the time.

Their templates are simple, posting is word-processor like, they allow for polls in the sidebar, photos in a post is simple and now, they allow for video to uploaded and embedded into posts.

For the beginning blogger or the student with little to no extra money for design work, blogspot might be the easy answer.

Excellent post! I have shared this with several of my friends that blog. I agree that the way the net is moving more and more opportunities will arise.
Personally I used Blogger for awahile and then switched over to Vox. I have been really happy with Vox and how simple it is to publish. For my business blog I use Wordpress and have been happy with that. Recently a network I belong to launched a blog with Expression Engine. I have been VERY impressed with what that software can do. It's a bit pricey but I can't say I have found anything to complain about with it.
Love the site guys! Keep up the great posts!

Robert, you mention a couple of SixApart products for someone's "personal blog". It would be well worth mentioning Typepad as well, as it's probably the most 'professionally-geared' of their hosted options. It does, of course have a monthly fee, unlike Blogger, but you do mention the paid version of Wordpress, so thought Typepad would be worth mentioning as well. (It can be used with a custom domain name as well.)
