I'm a long-time user of Fireworks and I was so hoping to see a review that says that the Fireworks CS3 standalone version is able to open .psd and retains all the blending, masks, and overlay effects done by another designer that works with Photoshop.

Looks like I don't have the need to get the latest version of Fireworks and stick to the MX 04 version that works fine for me. :)

Illustrator was created for print, Fireworks for the web. Any professional web designer will agree that Fireworks has a huge upper-hand over Illustrator in any kind of web design. I'm not bashing Illustrator in any way, as I use it often for graphic design projects, but I sure wouldn't say Fireworks is useless.

I'm struggling with the decision to upgrade to CS3. I reeeeeally want Dreamweaver and some of the features that CS3 offers. But, then I would not be on par with the print designers in my company, who have CS2 (the company won't pay to upgrade all of us). Will there be compatibility issues between my CS3 and their CS2? Any comments/suggestions?

I've been using Master Collection for a few weeks now and I'm pretty happy with it. I mostly use Fireworks, Dreamweaver and Photoshop.

I must say though, Fireworks still has some very irritating bugs on it, like the eraser or painter tool, which somehow freezes and doesn't let you make smooth moves when using it.

Good review btw!

Photoshop CS3 Extended is $999 when purchased at full price.
The regular Photoshop CS3 is $649.

I agree on eraser being favorite tool in Illustrator.
