Real Home Offices from FreelanceSwitch Readers
A few weeks ago I asked you to send me some pictures of your office, the response was even more amazing than what we got for our last showcase of home offices. There was such great response, that unfortunately I’m unable to showcase everyone’s photo. I picked out some of the best pictures you, our fantastic readers, sent in. Here are the top 15 home office solutions. In case I didn’t include yours, don’t worry – I loved to see them all, they were all great in one way or another. Let’s check ‘em out!
Andrew Flynn (submitted by personal friend: John Swaringen)
This is easy one of my new favourites, the setup with three screens with the speakers on each side. I just love the simple, warm and somewhat minimal elements in a great combination. Great work, Andrew! And thank you for submitting it to me, John! A great addition!
Haley Montgomery
A very comfy and natural setting, makes me want to work there. The best addition to this office is the frog on the couch, it gives it a playful addition to it. It’s just great! Thank you for submitting and sharing your office with us, Haley! I for one, I love it!
Juan Diego Cruz
The Star Wars figures on the shelves, I’m so jealous of them! I love the playfulness. I wish I had more than my Darth Vader bobblehead when I look at this. I just have one question for you, Juan – Where can I get the Star Wars figures?
Callum Chapman
Glass desk, plants, Wacom, iPhone, pen and paper, Smashing Book and a comfy chair – a really sweet set-up, professional, clean, minimal and very bright. I could really see myself working there. Thanks for sharing your wonderful office with us, Callum!
Jordan Walker
Looks like a really organized setup: four screens, a cat, screen cleaner, a laptop, and books. Minimal but yet organized nicely, I like this office – it has a clean yet professional feel about it. Thanks for sharing, Jordan!
Richard Cloutier
Big desk without a whole lot of items on it. It couldn’t be much cleaner than this. Leaves a lot of room for drawing, reading or even eating. Maybe not eating… but still, a great office enviroment. Thank you for sharing it with us, Richard!
Thomas

A lovely desk, a nice piece of art on the wall, and the speaker under the chair and desk gives this office a feel of completeness. Love the cleanliness it has, even though it probably was cleaned when the picture was taken – I still love it! Thank you so much for sharing this amazing office space with us, Thomas!
Salman Suhail
A really nice office that contains additions such as a wide monitor and speakers, and the best addition of them all, a Yamaha F310 Acoustic Guitar. I really like this office, not due to all the high-tech it contains, but for the simple priority of objects. If you like music, a guitar is a must have.
Greg M
The toys in this office makes it look complete as well as what the company stands for. Incorporating what your company does and stands for, is what it’s all about. The older monitor doesn’t detract; instead it adds a stylish vintage feel. If this was intended, I don’t know – but still, it looks great! Thank you for sharing this somewhat retro-style office with us, Greg!
Adriano Araujo

The photographer of this very honest yet natural office describes it as”The concept of real instantaneous photo of home office.” Which means that it’s taken after a hard days work, without preparation or cleaning, and shot with a cellphone camera. I like it a lot, great shot Adriano! Thank you for sharing it with us.
Andy Foulds
Love the scenic outlook from this office. To me – who dosen’t have palm trees naturally – it looks like everyday’s a vacation. The office maintains a natural feel with a wood desk, and it’s amazingly beautiful. Desktop looks great as well, love the background with the tilted folders window. Thank you for sharing this beautiful yet natural office with us, Andy! I like it a lot.
Søren Fritzbøger

Søren uses a very homey office; it is quite similar to my old one in fact. It’s quite nice with it’s simplicity. It’s not very cluttered with uncenessary items. Even if I would have gotten a somewhat cramped feel with the tilted roof, I still like it due to it’s homey feel. Thank you for sharing Søren!
Brad Gillespie
Even if it’s quite hard to see what this office contains, it still gives a cozy feel due to the candles in the glass jars. Some of us aren’t a big fan of dark offices, I would love a light-filled office. But somehow I really like this office, I think it’s the screens, keyboards and speakers that does it for me. Thank you for sharing this stylish and dark office, Brad!
Sritharan Arunan
Love the clean, minimal but yet professional look of this one; the TV with the Xbox 360 below – Amazing addition! Very organized, clean and just simple. It’s very bright and looks quite comfy. That chair is sure something I’d like to add to my own office. Thank you for sharing it with us, Sritharan!
Thomas Eckelmann
Clean, simple yet minimalistic office with a wonderful addition of a wacom and the old white iMac. Love the desk’s round-ness as well as the printer beside it. It makes it feel almost complete, with the wonderful wallpaper and carpet containing a quite modern look. Thank you for sharing this great office with us, Thomas! I like this one a lot.
Honorable Mentions
As I hope you understand I was unable to feature all of your great offices, but I’ve made a couple of honorable mentions for a couple of really nice offices. Reason for mentioning these two are due to it’s creativity, they should really be looked at in full completeness with all images. So make sure to visit each site for a set of extra inspiration, I guarantee that they are both more than great.

Jodi Vautrin Ourhaus – Design marries technology & they buy a loft
Thank you everyone who contributed, all your offices were great! It really means a lot to us to be able to share our fantastic readers very own offices. Maybe in the future, I might even do a follow up on this particular post. Who knows, maybe your office could be featured.
Do you have a favourite of these great FreelanceSwitch readers offices? I for one, found more than a few!

I love posts with photos of how freelancers’ desks are set up included. I like the desk of Sritharan Arunan, it looks clean and fantastic!
Sweet Offices
, Didn’t see anyone working out of a hut in tahiti, though.
I love the office of Chapman. I don’t have a window near my desk and really miss that. For that reaon I also can’t have plants in my office
Except that I don’t have a bad office… here is my photo:

That is a really nice setup Nancy, thanks for sharing your photo!
Yup I also really liked Callum Chapman’s setup. I think its my favorite!
But I also like Richard Cloutier and Thomas Eckelmann’s setups.
Kindest,
Nabeel
Woah, Callum, Thomas and Sri’s are neat awesome! Loved the woody and minimalist mix that they had with their home office setup.
I wonder how long did they take to do up the deco for the room (was it a one-time design or did it start from a table and slowly just made some shifts around the place to find a perfect fit for the overall look).
Very nice office set-ups!
I really like Andrew Flynn’s office for the professional yet homely setup and I LOVE the monitor/speaker setup…I want that!
Andy Foulds’ office is another favorite since, as you said, it really does feel like you’re on vacation. The view from the window also looks great and could be very therapeutic.
My other favorite is Sritharan Arunan’s setup. I love the color coordination between the clinically clean white and the ‘nature-inspired’ splashes of green. On that note, while green isn’t my favorite color, it’s said to be the color of genius! Finally, I LOVE the TV/XBox setup. I’m more of a PS3 man myself but I like what it says about the room.
Nice article, thanks!
I feel so woefully inadequate. I work from a makeshift office at my kitchen peninsula. With only a MacBook Pro and a Dell Inspiron laptop. Maybe I need to step it up a notch, eh?
I love Andrew Flynns work space… I wish one day to have one like it
What?! No iPads? Seriously guys, these are SO last year
You have to forgive me guys, a poor reaction to those iPad only offices which look cool but you can’t do any serious work in them.
First thanks for mentioning my workspace =)
Sritharan Arunan’s work area is awesome, a minimal white with splashes of green, and all the wiring is out of sight, he’s a man after my own heart.
Thomas Eckelmann’s desk is very minimal, I love the mood lighting and the rug looks great!
Forgive me for what may seem a silly question, but why the multiple monitors?
Multiple monitors help with productivity. It is a lot easier to have multiple windows up and not have to switch back and forth. I really love the setup that Andrew Flynn has. Looks like that is what my next investment will be.
I Love This more and Hope to take for some this Offices it’s cool
Looks like two schools are emerging: dark “lair” offices vs. bright “cathedral” offices.
Personally, I can’t stand having my desk directly facing a wall. It messes with me. I like facing outward into a room, makes me feel important I guess.
Nothing personal, but most of these photos look like kids bedrooms
I agree. Some are nice, but a few have no business being in this list. Professional freelancers aren’t going to be inspired by a 15-year-old’s bedroom and star wars toys.
Nice.
Andy Foulds’ office is my favorite because of the view!
Then I realized my own office has a similar view, but instead of palm trees, I have pines and oaks. I get to watch birds and woodland critters while I work – and they serve as both inspiration and much-needed distraction.
Thanks for sharing – I love looking at everyone’s office set ups.
Heather
p.s. Jonathan Fields did the “office tour” awhile back on video and it was really cool. http://www.jonathanfields.com/blog/my-war-and-peace-workspace/
Thank you very much for the inclusion to this excellent and less know list of developers and designers workstations.
Awesome collection of some very nice workstations. I’m hoping to get myself situated in a nice home office with the works – small TV and SNES on the side for quick breaks, mini-fridge packed full of Dr. Pepps, beastly dual-monitor setup, etc..
Wow—do you guys actually work at some of those desks?!?! They are so NEAT!!
And the pic with the cat–well you guys know me, no office is complete without a feline!
Great collection:)
Showing your home office to the world is like inviting your new girlfriend to your house, you have to do some cleaning first
I’ll be honest, my desk is always full of ToDo lists, papers and other things but don’t tell anyone !
this post has inspired me to re-do my office – my workspace is so boring right now! i really like the home made desk that Andy Foulds has, but they are all really nice spaces!
Jordan Walker’s space owns, though I hope the kitty won’t sabotage one of those four monitors?
My workspace is really interesting and I have a wonderful tree to keep me company, but I don’t want anyone to laugh at my SyncMaster 943m and 4:3 obsession.
Thanks Iva, notice the squirt bottle on the left – that doubles as sabotage spray!
Thanks for featuring my home office !
This is my “old” home office in fact. I moved to a new house 2 months ago and I’m actually in the process to setup my new home office. I already changed the desk, the room is bigger and it’s less dark (thanks to my new LED lighting).
Coming soon :
- New hardware
- New gadgets
- New urban look
For those interested, keep watching http://www.workstationsetups.com/pc/pc-home-office-setup/ for the updated pictures and description.
I just updated my home office setup.
Have a look : http://www.workstationsetups.com/pc/pc-home-office-setup/
they are so clean as if its up for some advertisement or put as a showpiece…mine is so messy that at times am unable to find my phone in the mess lol
I’ve seen some fantastic setups over the past few years ranging from the insane to the beautiful. But one common theme that makes all of it irrelevant and pointless is that most of them have cheap crappy chairs. These chairs were probably bought as an afterthought rather than as being a critical part of the setup. It’s especially more relevant to freelancers that work from home that they invest in a decent chair and spending as much on this part of the toolset as they do on their multi-screen layouts. By all means, spend thousands on the technology, but that won’t save you from the pain and medical bills when you do your back in from sitting in it eight hours a day.
Sneaking a peak at other people’s work spaces never gets old! Some nice setups in the bunch.
I like the look of the first one but I wonder how productive 3 monitors side by side would be during crunch time…
i would be interested to know how many of these are candid shots. My desk looks like sometimes, but today – its a wreck!
wow I should post mine next year! I’ve got 5 computers 3 speakers a fan and piles and piles of trash, discs, folders and the occasional cat
It’s fun to look at. I would also love to see candid shots: the haven’t-cleared-lunch-dishes, deadline-tomorrow, works-in-progress desks.
I love Thomas Eckelmann’s setup and his desk, super clean!
Here is a pic of mine. Small desk, 15″ MacBook Pro, BOSE Speakers, 23″ Samsung Monitor mounted to the wall. Really clean. Then it’s all surrounded by baseball artwork.

All very nice showcase offices. I’d love to know what some of these people actually do… what style of office relates to what job.
for me it’s logo/ci, webdesign and a bit of image editing.
by the way: thanx for featuring my office and all the nice comments
These are so awesome. I just moved into a new house and I finally have a space of my own to call my office. No more working out of the kitchen. I’m excited to go through the processes of setting it up to meet my needs. I have big plans. Maybe when I’m done I’ll have beautiful pictures like these to share.
My desk(s) are a bit of a mess now because I’ve been wanting to move my office to another room and it’s just been taking forever (2 years now). I can’t wait for the day I finally get a new desk and migrate all my equipment (screens, pcs, mac, music instruments, books, posters, and all that)
Sritharan Arunan i wont the same workplace
