De-Motivational Posters for Freelancers

Motivational posters have graced the offices of businesses throughout the world. They typically contain an inspiring word followed by text designed to grab you by the neck and shake you into action.

They make me sick every time I look at one. So here are a few de-motivational posters to abase and darken your freelance office with. Warning, humor lurks ahead.

My 7 year old daughter’s on winter vacation. The “Family” poster is so sadly true. While I’ve enjoyed my time as Super King of Lollipop Dinosaur Land, this comment is more writing than I’ve done all week :-(

    1. PG Sean Hodge

The family one made me laugh too. My 4 year old son wants me to play Maria Galaxy on the Wii with him all day, and we have a second baby coming in the next month.

I decided I had to start renting an office outside the home to get my work done more efficiently. So, far it’s working well, and when I’m home I feel more in the moment – good on both fronts.

Aweseome awesome post! I’ve always loved de-motivational posters & you guys made an awesome start to my day.

  4. PG David

The orange advice is so sad. But funny! Here are some more motivations to keep motivated.

The family one made me sigh… .yeah….

  6. PG Samar Owais

The Family poster is the one I relate to the most. 11 month old who wants to work on mommy’s computer. I’d love for her to become a freelancer too – just not yet!

There’s an online store called Despair.com that carries de-motivational posters like the ones shown above.

One of my alltime Despair.com favorites says, “Get to work. You are not being paid to believe in the power of your dreams.”

  8. PG Ensemble

Awesome indeed…really made me smile…wonder from where i can get it printed in good resolutions

  9. PG cenzi

that stolen photoshop one is untrue. Nobody works less because they have a pirated version.

And as for family… a good basement office keeps them away, but not their sounds :(

    1. PG NMG Design

Um, I think you missed the intent… The poster refers to the large number of people without training who firmly believe that just because they have a copy of the software (pirated or legal) makes them a designer.

  10. PG Stephanie

Isolation made me laugh. Maybe I should mark a Fuji apple and place it beside my desk lamp for some company.

  11. PG sprise

Ahahaha Mr Juicy! I am going to draw faces on all my Cuties (clementines) and line them up in front of my workspace.

    *Instant party*

  12. PG ADrian

I agree with most of them, although the part with the stolen photoshop is not always true :D

  13. PG PixelTunnelVision

    Some alternatives…

Expectations: You went to college and paid $2400 for the Adobe Suite, and you realize that doesn’t make up for not being actually good.

Value: Don’t know what you’re worth? You know xhtml and the most beginner PHP. Charge $100. You’re your own boss now!

    1. PG PixelTunnelVision

      Oops! ^ $100/hr.

  14. PG Cynthia

I’d like this but my clients would see it.

  15. PG Alan

    Good stuff!

    Typo: “You’re [a] strong believer…”

  16. PG Addy Kho

I guess it is a trade off.. to make ends meet.

  17. PG Chris R

    Hahaha good finds. Loved it.

  18. PG Cybertoos

Earn your life, extend your business and above all GROW YOUR SOUL.
Freedom,Family,Friend(a coconut as your company as seen in ‘Cast Away’)
    Thanks for nice article.

  19. PG Sharon

FAH!! No one gets it but us :-)

  20. PG Debby Norman

    Neither clever nor funny.

  21. PG Neil

I love the second last one.. Hehe anybody who’s been working from home can relate to that.

  22. PG Avitodvd

Wow, nice pictures and impressive…I think the photo of family would be the best photo….

  23. PG MikeMcD

I’ll admit it, there have been times when I didn’t wear pants while working. Boxers, but sans pants.

Hey, it’s a perk that I had to take advantage of at least a few times. Lately I’m more into the regular routine of getting dressed for work even if no one is going to see me all day, and even if “dressed” means a t-shirt, jeans, and slippers. I do at least make it a point to wear pants every day now. :)

  24. PG saucy

    You’re a. Do some proofing.

  25. PG angelee

Its the captions that discourages freelancers, the images were captured by a pro. Love the post!

  26. PG walt

The is poorly formed … was that part of the joke?

  27. PG Lauren Hunter

This made my day. The Family one is certainly true, as are most of the others. Kudos to the brilliant mind that put these together!!

  28. PG Pashmina

Awesome collection. Thanks for taking the time to put these together. The Isolation one really cracked me up.

  29. PG Dave Fowler

    Genius.. made me giggle.. thanks

  30. PG Hanesee

Two months into the freelancing world and I can already relate. =p
