I’m surprised you pay people to write for you sometimes. I mean I would just do it for free but I guess if you are offering money than people will take it.

Considering Freelance Switch brings in at least $6,000 per month, $60 for an article is a bit poor in my opinion.
Perhaps if you raise the bar a bit, you guys will get a lot less ‘repeat posts’ that crop up a lot these days and get more original contributions from bigger names in the industry. This in turn will increase hits and more ad revenue. To attract the big names to contribute $60/£30 isn’t going to be worth their time. Freelance Switch is in the position now where it can take the blog to the next level, while blowing everyone else out of the water. Making the bait more tempting for the big fish to bite might be the key in doing so.
I agree with Ani. I’m an experienced freelancer of five years, and have a lot to share, but I expect to be paid a professional amount for an article. As a site that’s supposed to be supportive to freelancers, it doesn’t reflect well on you that you pay so little. I’m sure your telephone company doesn’t give you a big discount for being nice guys, so why should your contributors? To my mind, a more reasonable payment for, say, a 500 word article would be around US$175.
