This week we look at The Benefits of Creating Talking Head Videos for Your Blog by Darren Rowse. In this video he discusses the benefits of creating simple videos on your blog. “Talking head” videos are easy to make, a great way to deliver information, while showcasing your personality.

this is a great idea and I think potentially much more engaging than pages of text.
Another benefit from creating videos is that it’s much harder to ignore that type of message. With an article or a photograph, I can make up my mind very quickly: “This is relevant,” “that is too long to read,”, “it’s not my kind of thing.” With a video – once I make the decision to press play – I’m unlikely to stop paying attention unless it’s really long and really boring. So you’ve got a lot more time to convince me to your point of view, which – online – is priceless.
totally agree…!!!
yes video is powerful, however it takes longer to create too.
So i guess it comes down to what type of content you are creating before you decide to create video.
Pardon me for being a killjoy, but I think that talking-head videos are one of the most boring things ever to hit the Internet.
Sorry, Charlie. Apologies, Charlene. But your and moving mouth are not that interesting.
Give me action! Scenery! Drama! Anything but you standing there talking! Please!
Absolutely worth the time, as I mentioned on the original post, we’ve been recording these for a few weeks for each one of our services. I think it’s going to give each page a personal touch – almost as effective as meeting each one of your website visitors in person before they even inquire!
If you run a website that sells products or services, I think this is even more important as a way to set yourself apart from every other competitor. Your customers see the extra effort and reward you with more sales.
Hey Sean, great video on the benefits and I know it’s time to step in front of the camera. How long did it take you to get comfortable with it?
@Gene – just pretend you’re talking to someone else. Or better yet, talk to someone else.
Sit at a table have the camera and mic on you and then just talk to your buddy, wife, husband, whatever and you’ll be comfortable in no time.
Even have them ask you questions and edit them out, if it helps.
@Sean, nice tip. I included a link to this in my latest issue of Freelancing Weekly: http://freelancingweekly.com/issue-2
@Jeff – Thanks for the great advice, looking forward to giving that a try!
