@James I definitely agree that one can't simply say "Today's going to be my success day" and just have it happen. Even with a ton of hard work, sometimes success doesn't happen. I think the important point is that a lot of times, even without knowing it, we defeat ourselves before we even start something. "Oh, I won't be good at that" or perhaps the "Oh, I don't have time to do that." For some people, this kind of mindset (sometimes unintentional) can keep them in unhealthy or even self-destructive careers/jobs or keep them away from pursuing what they'd really like to do. Not disagreeing with you in the slightest, but I do think (as I say all the time) that there's a happy medium here.

my resolution for '08 is to get started on my freelancing career. #10 really hits home for me, my current full-time job makes me miserable, and sucks the life out of me, but i stick with it for security. It's just not worth it, and i need to figure out how to get out of there ASAP.

I agree James. But if you take it outside the realm of Freelancing (as you can with many of these), and apply it to every day life, when the opportunity arises to be a success, your mindset will be: I am a success and can do this!

Will: Get in touch with your local small business group. They can provide you tips on how to find that information based upon your locale.

Have a great New Year everyone!

"Don’t Dream of Success (Be a Success)"

Inspirational words, but the reality for many people is so distant from this simple philosophy. I mean, if I really could just get out of bed one day and say, "well I think I'll be a success today," not only would it sound daft but I would quite honestly do exactly the same as I do everyday. What I am trying to say is that as poetic as that 'Be A Success' thing is, it's kinda hard without any real direction... especially when you're not even sure about being a freelancer in the first place.

#1 is a good start for a freelancer and I hear people say it all the time. But what they don't tell you is how to do it or where to start. Can some one give some suggestions?

Setting small goals is one of the things that I am really going to be focusing on this year. After all, I can't always devote big blocks of time to everything, and taking things a step at a time helps keep projects moving forward.
