Survey will be released Tomorrow!
Collis Ta'eedQuick note to say, as of a few minutes ago, I have completed the last part of the survey. It’s now wrapped up in some nice PDF packaging. Weighing in at 55 pages of data and graphs, there’s all sorts of interesting stats in there like …
4 - The percentage of freelancers whose entire client list is made up of foreign business.
37 - The average number of hours a week Australian freelancers work, the least of any continent.
![]()
10 - The percentage of freelancers who have business insurance.
And there’s LOTS more where that came from. Expect the survey to be hitting the inboxes of the 4000-odd people who participated in about 24hrs. For those who didn’t participate, the results doc will be available for a small fee on the site, so don’t worry everybody will have a chance to get survey goodness!

Excellent news, can’t wait!
Ps. Do you really mean 4000 thousand people? That’s a mighty large amount!

10% with insurance seems high to me. In the usa, they screw us with taxes and health care. I can’t wait to see the puppy in my box tomorrow!
Thanks!

whoops, not quite 4000 thousand, more like 4 thousand
I shudder to imagine analysing 4 million people’s data, this was hard enough!

@Jim: Good question about the fee. The reasoning is that it’s been by far the most expensive thing we’ve ever done on this site. Anyone who participated in the survey gets it for free since they have already contributed to the production, and anyone else can contribute toward the cost. I’m 100% certain we will never recoup the cost … it was really expensive … but it worth mitigating, particularly if we ever want to do it again.

Um, yeah, I would rather not pay for it, but seeing as how you did all the work, and I am just trying to freeload, well, I guess I could buy it. The site alone would be worth a fee (sorry freeloaders) b/c there is so much information, useful, tactful, interesting, insightful information. I would be doomed if I started to go freelance before reading it. Thanks for that.
I am definitely interested in the results tho. get my stats on, wha-what?

I just got it! Very nice read, lots of information. My clients are going to hate it because I think now I charge to little. Anyway thanks a bunch for putting this together it is really useful and loaded with information in an easy to digest format.
Awesome work!!

The results were -very- interesting. I was particularly interested in the breakdown of the average salaries, and was surprised by some of the results.
