Our New Advertiser - MOSSO
Cyan Ta'eedWe’d like to welcome our new advertiser, MOSSO!
MOSSO is a venture company of Rackspace, who have also advertised with us. If you love Rackspace for their service but are looking for a more economical alternative that’s perfect for web designers and developers, then MOSSO should be your first port of call. For the performance and space of a dedicated server and the reliability of a fully-managed, clustered environment, $100/month is a pretty good price. It’s a perfect, happy medium between shared and dedicated hosting.
They also offer great tech support and billing services for clients, which is great for those of us trying to get some easy passive income.
Our programmer Ryan also tells me that the hosting system is managed through a custom-built, intuitive control panel allowing on-demand provisioning of clients, web sites, email accounts and databases. I personally don’t know what that means, but Ryan tells me it’s a very good thing!
So a warm welcome to MOSSO, and remember that our advertisers help FSw do what it does, so please support them if you can!

Jeff, you beat me to pointing it out

A web hosing system should be a neat web2.0 app

I noticed that too… it made me click over to their website just to make sure it was wrong, so in a way it was “good marketing” I guess.
Are you looking for a good hoser?

I recently switched from Media Temple to Mosso for my IT/Technology solutions business (Tri Megatech), and have been much happier so far. *knock on wood*. Media Temple was awesome, but it seems like all the growth has hindered them. At least based on my experience.

I just went to their site and told the live chat agent about the typo.. He passed it on to the designer.
Oops!
Nice guy though, friendly and fast, so I imagine their tech support is the same way.

Mosso is a pretty cool service, but if you are seriously thinking about using them, you should read the forums on their site first.
They’ve had some serious outages and other growing pains. Proceed with caution.

There service is simply awful. I agree with Ben Harper, read the forums first. I was with them for a year and left for Media Temple earlier this year and have never been more happy.

It’s a good news for the freelancers. Let’s go to develop ‘ the MoSSo’!
Great to ‘MOSSO’!

I’ve recently jumped on the Mosso bandwagon. I’ve had some growing pains, but support has been there for me all the way. The only bone I have to pick is that their MySQL support doesn’t support InnoDB and developer access is limited at best. Otherwise, it’s a great platform to set your clients up on.

I recently switched to Mosso based on recommendations from sites like Freelance Switch, but unfortunately right after I did they went and changed their billing/usage system:
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=672451
The new limitations are ludicrous and certainly not targeted towards designers and freelancers who want to host their clients sites, but rather developers who need a place to host their applications.
FSw, I would really reconsider your stance on keeping Mosso as an advertiser - it looks like they have switched their target audience away from yours and are no longer a good match.
On that note, does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative? I’ve tried Media Temple as well but their history of problems is well documented.

Mosso too expensive? If anyone is interested in sharing the cost of Mosso with me, I’d be willing to set you up with one (or a few if needed) of the client accounts for a good price. Just need a few people to help offset my costs. I’m thinking $10 for me, plus the set fees at Mosso (for example, $5 for 100mb of MS SQL, etc). I can be flexible with price depending on what you’re looking for. I’m willing to set you up with unlimited email boxes and databases since they’re free anyway!
Please contact me at MossoReseller at gmail.com if you’re interested.
