News - GoMedia Competition Update, Blog Action Day Donations and Johnny B (our new content editor!!)
Cyan Ta'eedA bit of news today!
Firstly, I wanted to formerly welcome FreelanceSwitch’s new Content Editor, John Brougher. You’ve probably heard John hosting our podcasts, and we’re so pleased that he’s going to be helping us grow and expand the site. John is on a worldwide search right now for new writing talent, so if you want to write for us, fill in this form and let John know!
Next, if you want to see how Blog Action Day went, you can see it here. It was a great success, and we are really grateful to all that participated.
Because of this post we are donating US$57 to an environmental charity. Also, there was a total of US$96 donated by you guys (go all of you)! We are donating our earnings for that day, which was US$139.
So that comes to a grand total of $292!
And, the fabulous Naomi from IttyBiz.com has generously offered to match our donations! So go check out the blog - it’s for people who work from home or who are thinking about it. Right now, they’re running four weeks of articles about the big issues surrounding freelancing and running your own business - managing your time, making more money, marketing yourself, and the psychology of working from home. Thanks Naomi!!
The GoMedia Calling Card competition has received some great entries! Collis has made a tutorial detailing how he created his calling card, so if you want to learn more about applying a grungy urban look, check it out here.
Go Media actually has a great new article on their blog - A Designer’s Guide To Pricing. It’s a fantastic article if you’re still trying to figure out how much to charge, so if that’s you head over and give it a read!
And finally I just want to give a big thank you to Moo who offered to pay for all four prizes for the Moo Postcard Competition! It was really generous considering I decided to make it four at the last minute. So thanks to Moo!!!

Cyan, thank you so much for running your fantastic charity campaign. I’ll admit, as a major ecogeek, I was a little worried when I heard about Blog Action Day. I thought everyone was going to write 500 words on “Why The Environment Is Like, Important, You Know?” and I couldn’t have been further off. Your post was fantastic, as were so many others. I was happy to be able to contribute.
And hi, Andrew! I’m glad you like the site. We like it, too. Obsessively so.

Thanks for welcoming me
I’ve only been freelancing for the past 8 months or so (finally going to catch up on house payments since I started with no money down), but am enjoying every second of it. It helps too that my wife is gracious enough to drive a school bus for a while to get state insurance
And thanks to you and everyone that works with this genre of blogs/zines for encouraging and helping me succeed. I’m hoping to get my website and portfolio up to snuff soon, probably helped if I layed off the blogs for a while, but oh well.
And I am grateful for everyone that participated in the Blog Action Day, encouraging to see people care for something besides their selves at least some of the time.

Hi Andrew…
I’ll only say one thing and then I’ll stop dominating the comments.
Can you put your email address up on your site, or drop me a line at naomi AT ittybiz DOT com? I tried to find you, but I couldn’t. Thanks!
