LinkSwitch – A Roundup of Great Links Across the Web
Time for a roundup of useful links from across this beast we call the world wide web:
- Seth Godin discusses the perils of client meetings at his blog.
- Sue Currie at Flying Solo has some good tips on how you can improve your verbal communication skills, which could make all the difference when meeting that prospective client.
A great post at the Cranking Widgets Blog on the 8 Habits of Highly Ineffective Emailing (and what to avoid).
A really fun little tool that will tell you whether something has been written by a man or a woman. I tried out the Gender Genie on FreelanceSwitch and it was 100% accurate. Spooky
Finally, my guru Steve Pavlina lists the 10 Stupid Mistakes Made By The Newly Self-Employed. As usual, wise words from Steve.
If you have a useful link or article that you think FreelanceSwitch readers would be interested in, Send It In!

Good stuff as always, thanks guys.
Thanks these are great. Unfortunately the gender genie thinks I’m a dude. But that’s OK! It’s good to know I’m versatile.
The article by Steve Pavlina is excellent, especially when it comes to injecting a little personality into your business. Lately I’ve been thinking about how easy it is bogged down doing work that pays the bills, when injecting more of your personality into your site/emails/etc. could attract more of the work you’d like to do. Very interesting.
It too thought I was male. Even the bit I blogged about it tested out as male! Go figure.
Phooey – the Gender Genie said two of my articles were penned by a woman. Which I ain’t.
Either I change my writing style or somehow I must break the news to my wife of 16 years that I’m not what I appear to be.
That Gender Genie consistently comes back and tells me that anything I’ve written was written by a male. Now one of my coworkers thinks I’m keeping a big secret from everyone!
He he – sorry guys! It worked for me
But admittedly I did write about fairies and flowers and ponies – do you think that might have had something to do with it?
I really love the design of your site!
Thanks for sharing the link to the Gender Genie. I ran a check on a story I wrote and while it caught that the narration was written by a woman, it flagged scenes I wrote between men as being written by a male! Hooray to the gender accuracy in my fiction!
Thanks for the referral to FlyingSolo.
But it appears that I’m a woman as well!!
