I would like you to discuss how to find business partners, how to find clients and ofcourse the right clients.

Also I would like to hear something about client communication. How to make the first move and how to reject bad clients.

Please, please please – duplicate the valuable parts of your podcast content in text.

Some (perhaps many) of us don’t particularly like podcasts (me, I find them too slow to impart information, compared to reading) – If you’re saying it in a podcast, I’m just not going to hear it.

Supplementing your (great) content here is fine – I can live with that – but replacing it would make me sad

It would be great to hear something for getting started in freelance. I’m a recent graduate and trying to find a junior position is very hard, I’m looking to get some freelance stuff so that I can try and keep my portfolio fresh, but I don’t really know where to begin. It’s be great to hear some pointers and such along those lines.

@Andrew: I promise we won’t replace the articles with podcasts! They’ll be an extra element every couple of weeks that will supplement our regular content not replace it. And we will definitely have notes for each podcast so you won’t need to listen to hear the gist of it!

Just wanted to echo Phil Bowell’s interest in hearing about getting started in the big wide world of freelance.

I agree about duplicating the podcasts or at least topics in text. Maybe for each podcast you could link to it on the blog so people won’t miss the topic.

I’d like to hear more about transitioning from full-time agency to your own freelance self-employment and the best ways to do it for yourself and your current employers.

As both Andrew and Rachel suggest, reading is not overrated!!!

If the podcast is as good as your articles, then I will certainly be subscribing to them.

Topics that would be useful would and that would compliment articles already written, include marketing, tips on writing copy, adding value to services offered and maybe discussions around how people organise their day, how much they charge, software that they use etc.

I’d love to see Podcasts, however, I agree with Andrew. I’d like to see Podcasts as a supplement and not a replacement to the text posts on this site.

Thanks for the great feedback–just to reiterate what Cyan said, the text posts on this site aren’t going anywhere. I apologize if that was implied, but podcasts are just another part of Freelance Switch–if you want to listen to them, fantastic (I strongly encourage you do!), but they won’t replace this site by any means.

You should interview people who’ve made the switch. I know a few that wouldn’t mind talking about it.

Set up Skype calls or something.

Ditto on xadrian. I’d love to hear stories. I’ve been full time for almost 7 years now and would be happy to tell my tale.

The stories I am interested in hearing are the next step of growing from a single indy to a larger team. Stories and advice on dealing with being remote & distance teams, virtual culture.

Freelance Switch is a mega-helpful Web site — always full of engaging content and useful information. I’ve become a frequent visitor ever since I discovered it. But I’m also a podcast junkie, so I will definitely subscribe to yours.

It would be great to get some advice on how to handle clients who don’t pay their invoices on time. What about adding on a late fee — do most freelancers tack on 1% after 30 or more days?

I agree with the other people and would like to hear about starting from scratch as a Freelancer. We so often hear and read advice about getting the portfolio together, but this falls way short of what is actually required to start out in the world of freelancing. There are so many decisions to be made, that it can be quite daunting at times. Will you be working from home or not? Where are you going to get your customers from? Who is your competition? Which suppliers will you use? How will you travel to see customers? What is your unique selling point? What type of bank account should you have? Why do you want to freelance? What type of system should I have for logging and saving job and artwork? How do you work out how long a job will take if you are new/rusty/producing something that you haven’t done previously? What are the most important things that I should be doing when starting out?

OK, so maybe there were too many examples, but you get the idea.

As some people have already suggested, I’d like to hear some experiences of people who recognized the tipping point going from part-time to full-time freelancing and all the implications that carries as well as some safeguards to employ when relying on your home business as a main source of income.

I’d like to hear a podcast on when people knew it was the right time to make “the switch” from working full-time and freelancing part-time to freelancing full-time.

In addition to all the great requests so far, I’d love to hear how freelancers deal with working out of their home when they have a young family in tow. While a lot of the advice I read is very much common sense, sometimes it just doesn’t gel when you have kids wanting/needing your attention every other moment of the day.

I’ve only just discovered FreelanceSwitch a month or two ago, and I am finding it a fantastic resource – kudos to all involved and keep up the good work!

What might be interesting is to hear from other people who feel the effect when someone moves from in-house to freelance – e.g. husbands/wives/partners, children, friends. You could interview them on how it affects their social life, the differences they have seen in the freelancer etc.

Sort of an inside-outsider perspective.

Talk about some of your best articles (top readed, top rated ones) also the ones that are talking about what we should do and how-to for keeping us on top of our game !

I read when I have to but I scan like many people and sometimes you have to read every word…. This podcast idea is great for me….. I can download it, put it on my mp3 player and listen to it while driving…. I would really like to hear more about how to charge clients for consulting. What do they expect from a Consultant and what should I be ready to provide.
