FreelanceSwitch News
Collis Ta'eedI can’t believe it’s only been a week since I took over editing the blog once more. As always there is plenty happening here on FreelanceSwitch and this week has been no different.
Less Advertising
You may have noticed that most of the advertising on the site is now gone. What we do have is the new single Miiingle banner slot. Currently 4 of the 6 spaces have been sold, if you’re interested in one of the last two spots, you can get more details at Miiingle.com.
Previously the advertising was starting to get a little intrusive and I’m not sure it was as effective for our advertisers as it should have been. So this new system is better for everyone, and when there are spots free (as there are now) you’ll see a sprinkling of ads for some of the other Eden websites.
Feel free to stop by and visit our advertisers:
New Writers
We have a few new faces who have joined us in this last week and I hope you’ll enjoy their work as much as I do! You’ll be hearing freelance tips from:
Four very talented freelancers from different backgrounds who are going to add tremendously to the already large pool of talent and experience here at the ‘Switch. Please make them feel welcome!
Upgrading the Server
Recently FreelanceSwitch has been going down when it (or another site on the same server) gets dugg. So I’ve put in an upgrade request and this week we’ll be moving the site up to a much more powerful slice. Sorry about the downtime, and hopefully it won’t be for much longer!
The Job Board
Since we upgraded the job board a couple of weeks ago it’s been powering along with a good number of subscriptions and a consistent stream of jobs appearing. So far I’ve had a few subscribers write to me and the new system seems to be working well. If you haven’t already, head over and grab an account, you’ll be helping support the site and getting work at the same time!
I’m going on a little vacation!
And one final piece of news, as of this Wednesday, Cyan and I will be on a ten day vacation in the southern most part of Australia in a place called Tasmania. I’ve got most of the publish queue sorted so you’ll have plenty more great FSw content while I’m gone, but you may not see me in the comments for a while. Also before we go we’re frantically polishing off the book, so you can expect a big announcement in the next 48 hours unveiling what we’ve been working on for so long! That’s going to be a big weight off the shoulders, that’s for sure!

Haven’t upgraded the server yet, well sort of have, I’ve paid for it, We just haven’t moved there!!
Which is a pity because I think the site went down a few hours ago when it was on Digg. Never mind though, soon it’ll be fixed!

I noticed the changes as well and really like the single ad placement which i find less intrusive. I am really glad to see the new writers on board and am a big fan of both Chris and Skellie! Great improvements all round!
Keep up the great work and have a fantastic vacation, its well deserved for both of you!

Yay for vacations, especially computer-free ones. I don’t think I realised how much I needed one until today when the end is so close
