Freelance Camp Goes International

I’m sure over the last year you have all seen announcements for Freelance Camps in Texas, Florida, California, Nevada and Washington DC. The dialog is engaging and the events continue to grow stateside.

Many of you probably thought to yourself, that’s just dandy for the Americans (it is). Well, your chance is here! Volunteers have stepped up in Bremen + Leipzig + Nürnberg Germany, in Milan, Italy and in Jaipur, India to put on camps.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to have camps happen on every continent. After all, this is our time. The era of the freelancer. If you live in Australia or New Zealand, South or Central America, Africa, Western or Eastern Europe, or Asia, and wish there was an event you could attend, consider throwing a camp yourself. It is a bit of work, without a doubt, and the rewards are awesome.

Since I ran a camp in Santa Cruz last year, I gained significant street cred in our local community. That has lead to an increase in business and in influence. It also happened to really shake up our small town (totally unexpected). It turned out we had a dormant tech community that was busy working on their widgets and just hadn’t socialized in a decade. People came out of the wood works, mingled, shared wisdom, formed partnerships, and a number of new businesses and collaborations came to be.

Some times, all it takes is one person to throw an event to unite a community. Feel free to send me an email, (visit our site, my contact is at the bottom) and if I get the sense you are serious, I’d be happy to coach you through the process and help with marketing & finding sponsorships.

Thanks for posting this article. I have already started working on it.

Will send you a mail tonight.

I wouldn’t put much significance on non-attendance decisions. Lindzen and the rest of this panel are all older scientists; the non-attendees are younger. You have more flexibility in August when your children are grown up. It may be nothing more than that.

I’ll have to ask Spencer about the possibility of a regional analysis to see if in fact his and Lindzen’s results are compatible. But the above describes the situation that would need to be the case for that to be so, and may serve as a sort of hypothesis to be tested.
