Carbonmade Giveaway: WD Passport Hard-drives and Corsair Flash Drives to Win!

Carbonmade is a site where freelancers can create simple and professional online portfolios for free. They want to give you free stuff to reward exceptional creativity: 2 x WD Passport 250GB External Hard Drives and 2 x Corsair 4GB Flash Voyager rugged USB thumb drives, with 6 one-year premium subscriptions to Carbonmade up for grabs, each worth $120!

Entries will be judged by Carbonmade people Spencer Fry and Dave Gorum plus Collis Ta’eed and myself. Hit the jump to learn how you can win one of these nifty prizes!

Why we’re working with Carbonmade

At FSw we have advocated again and again that freelancers maintain an online portfolio. Though it’s difficult to disagree with the logic behind this plenty of freelancers still haven’t jumped on-board. This is probably because building a portfolio seems like a lot of work, and we feel busy enough as it is. However, we’ve been really impressed with Carbonmade’s ability to address this issue. The platform allows freelancers to create a professional-looking portfolio in less than ten minutes, and I think most clients really won’t know the difference. Take a look at this page and I think you’ll agree.

Carbonmade is especially good for graphic designers, illustrators and photographers who need a nice-looking space to display their work but may not have the web design skills or the budget required to do so. We like what they do, we want to help you guys make great portfolios, and it helps that they are fellow freelancers :) .

How to enter

Sign-up for a free or premium portfolio at Carbonmade. If you’ve already got one then you should enter with that portfolio. Portfolios will be judged (and prizes given out) according to two separate criteria:

1. Most creative use of the technology. We will be looking for clever uses of things like thumnails, About pages, the way you organize information, and the other tools and resources available for your profile. Here’s an example of a portfolio that has creatively used the technology: http://carlydraws.carbonmade.com/.

The most creatively tweaked profile will win a Western Digital Passport 250GB External Hard drive (see it) and a one-year subscription to Carbonmade ($120 value).

The runner-up profile will win a Corsair 4GB FlashVoyager rugged USB thumb drive (see it) and a one-year subscription to Carbonmade ($120 value).

One portfolio will receive an honorary mention and a one-year subscription to Carbonmade ($120 value).

2. Most innovative portfolio. We will be looking for portfolios featuring work that is truly unique–something that shows the freelancer behind it has developed a style that’s all their own. Your portfolio must include at least three items so we can compare them.

The most innovative portfolio will win a Western Digital Passport 250GB External Hard drive (see it) and a one-year subscription to Carbonmade ($120 value).

The runner-up portfolio will win a Corsair 4GB FlashVoyager rugged USB thumb drive (see it) and a one-year subscription to Carbonmade ($120 value).

One portfolio will receive an honorary mention and a one-year subscription to Carbonmade ($120 value).

The six prize-winning portfolios will also be featured in the contest results post.

When your portfolio is ready to be judged send the link via email to support [at] carbonmade.com. Make sure the subject title of the email is: ‘FSw Competition’.

Entries close on the 3rd of September, so you have about two weeks to get yourself into gear.

Good luck!

I also know http://www.talentflux.com which is not available yet but promesses to be great, it’s developed by Vize Media (http://www.vizemedia.com).

Even if you already have your own portfolio, I’d still urge you to sign up for Carbonmade. Plenty of people have both, because it just means that more people will have an opportunity to see your work if it’s listed in two places. Our portfolio listing (http://www.carbonmade.com/portfolios/) gets nearly 100,000 visitors a month — many of them lookin’ for people like you to hire! And on another note, entries are starting to pour in and they’re looking fantastic! Keep ‘em coming! The FSw readers are a very talented bunch.

  7. PG Karyl

I don’t know if I will be taking part, since while the prizes are nice and Carbonmade is a nifty site, I already have a couple of portfolios kicking around… I have my regular one at http://www.paintedsky.ca and then one on Behance as well.

  8. PG mayhemstudios

I have my own site plus 6-7 other portfolio sites I belong to. You can never have too much web presence. Looks like I just added another one. :)
