Don't you people use cellphones?
I admit, I lack experience outside Europe, but the GSM networks nowadays have pretty good coverage and cellular phones actually have an internet connection. I know only cities have G3 and it is usually pretty slow trough GPRS, but at least enables you to send that URGENT email and stay online at IMs even when climbing a mountain. I usually plug the phone (trough an USB cable) into the laptop and use it as a modem.
Publik WiFis ususlly have no security in order to make the things easier for users. Which also means that your become a pretty seasy target for anyone on the airport or hotel. They don't really have to phisically steal your computer in order to get into your bank account or communicate with your clients

The secret place for documents and money could be even more dangerous. What if the taxi charges you more than you have expected or a policeman on the street wish to see your papers? Or isn't that strange bump under your thick clothes in a hot day a detonator or something... You'd start to undress grabbing everyone's intention on "what so much you have to hide". The front pockets of my panths never left me down.

I'd suggest a GPS device. It's really handy if you wish to get from point A to point B, but have no idea how exactly (don't forget to download maps of where are you going in advance)

I left my home country 2 weeks ago to travel and work on my business. I travel light - 6.9KG to be exact. 100 grams under the carry on luggage limit. That includes my laptop.

Everything I have is optimised for weight and space. For instance the upper on my formal is soft and can be folded flat. 4 pairs underwear, socks, 2 pairs trousers. I've been stabbed and jabbed by a doctor for every disease known to man and have the best travel insurance you can get.

I agree with what someone else here said. The biggest problem is internet. I'm in India at the moment and the internet is horrible. Wifi does not exist here outside technology parks. I'm looking at a company called "Regus" that provides walk in serviced office space on every continent in the world. Anyone used them?

One tip I can give is talk to everyone like you've been in the country for years. That way you can avoid what I call the "foreigner tax" where people try and make you pay more for everything. It's pretty funny to do actually. Getting an auto you talk super fast and give directions verbally and by using hand signals even though what you are saying is complete nonsense. The auto drivers can't understand it, but assume you know exactly what your doing, so don't mess with you and give you local rates.

The Daisy razor made it aboard once again this week, but my liquid soap was confiscated; bubbles are scary!

My #1 Travel tip is to use kayak. It has yet to fail me in finding the cheapest airfare to just about anywhere. Mobissimo is pretty decent as well...
