The Best Books for Freelance Bloggers

Blogging for hire has been a subset of freelance writing, but there are many freelance bloggers who take on projects very different from what a freelance writer might take on. That means that the books a freelance blogger should read aren’t necessarily the same ones as a freelance writer. Lets look at four of the best books for freelance bloggers.

ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income

While Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett wrote their book as a guide to earning money with your own blog, the information covered is also what you need to know to be a great blogger in general — and therefore earn higher rates from your clients.

The Staff Blogging Course

Ali Hale earns a living by writing blog posts for clients. Her ebook walks you through each step necessary to build up a blogging portfolio and land clients, divided into six units that will get you up to speed quickly. The ebook has even been endorsed by several blog owners who rely on hiring bloggers.

Essential Blogging: Selecting and Using Weblog Tools

Without getting too technical, Cory Doctorow, Shelley Powers and several other bloggers walk you through the tools that are used to blog. While many of the clients you may encounter use WordPress, a surprising number will use less well-known tools or even custom blogging software. This book will keep you from stumbling when confronted with such clients.

Publish and Prosper: Blogging for Your Business

More blogging clients are looking for help with a business blog than anything else. D.L. Byron and Steve Broback cover the details of business blogging in their book. With that information, you can make sure that you can help your clients.

Thanks Thursday – Great information as always. Darren and Chris’ Problogger book definitely sets the standard for all bloggers. I personally endorse Ali Hale’s great staff blogging course. While most of my income still comes from UX design and copywriting work, I’m also earning a good amount as a freelance blogger now thanks to Ali’s comprehensive program. It was totally worth the investment.
