Freelance Freedom #97

PG

N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.

Haha. So true. How come client’s expect you to be available all the time??

  2. PG micah

I think it’s great you’ve got the two different characters in one strip. Will we see more of that often?

  3. PG Rafie

That’s always the case for freelance designer.

Client #1: “Hey, my sites is down.”
    Designer #1: “Please insert coin to continue. 9.. 8.. 7.. “

  4. PG Justin

nice cameo … I hate when clients do that. It’s like “hmm.. I heard what you said, but that doesn’t matter, I think you’re worth this much.” Screw that. I am FREE-lance, that means only I say what I’m worth, and if you don’t like it, you can get lost.

  5. PG Laurie

    Or how about this

    “Compensation:
For now there is no payments for joining and working with the team, but, once the game is launched, all your efforts will be rewarded with wages and other compensations. Plus this is an excellent opportunity to work with an experienced developer on what will no doubt grow to be an extremely popular project. N&N Tech itself has a great team together which just act like a bunch of friends together for a good time!”

    this was my response:

    “heh heh heh”

    A rather poetic final frame.

  7. PG Adam

Nice one, from my experience the clients that want to pay less than your usual rate are also the ones that demand the most.

  8. PG Don Wallace

    Another great toon.

Avoid clients that try to treat you like an employee (demand fixed hours and expect you to answer the phone 9-5.) They don’t understand the business relationship. It also indicates that they want a servile flunky in that role, someone who drops everything for them on a whim.

When the mismatch is over price, most prospects won’t directly tell you they only want to pay half your rate. Most cheapskates will find “logical reasons” why you should be cheap that are usually insulting. Sic: “I talk to foreign guys who work for 1/4 what you do.” “Our president never pays that much to any freelancer, because none of them are good enough to charge that.” Etc.

  9. PG Martha Retallick

If a client wants me to be available all the time, I’ll provide one of the following responses:

Are you offering me a job? If the answer is no, then I bring out the big artillery:

Okay, if you still want to be available all the time, then howazabout if we get married?

  10. PG Chris O.

I do some freelance work and I find that if a can’t service a particular client, the best thing to do is pass a referral on to another professional. The long term benefits of this strategy is immeasurable. It means that the recipient of your referral will likely send you business when they come across clients that can use your services.

  11. PG Nate

    It’s the Daily Creattica guy!

  13. PG Zia Rahman

    So true..

  14. PG Amit

Well that happens a lot to me also.

  15. PG Stephanie Cockerl

When will clients realize that we don’t have all the answers?

  16. PG Cyrus
