N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.
LOL! I love it. I woulda thought that a designer would immediately think that it’d just be terrible, but thats the programmer that I am. Think ya hit it right on the head about how a designer thinks and can tackle a job like this.
Sounds like a request I got a while back. Client wanted a logo with a whale, a lighthouse, an apple orchard, Acadian flag, and a pathway in the shape of a 3 leading up to the lighthouse.
There was no question, it was the worst logo ever.
In high school, as the designated “art kid” on the Robotics team, I got saddled with making our logo. Our team theme was Where’s Waldo. Our school mascot was a dragon. They could not be talked out of what they wanted. Yeah, Waldo, you ride that dragon. I suppose it was training for the years to come, if nothing else.
See, I saw that and my first thought was “Okay, submarines all logo’d up being overtaken by a scuba diver on a horse. Or a seahorse, either or.” I didn’t even blink at the absurdity of it.
…I blame the internet, and wish I had the illustrationy skills to enter the design industry. Because I love finding ways to make ridiculous stuff like that make sense, but I cannot draw. At all.
Kim! Nice to see a former FIRST robotics member! I’m a member of team 967, currently working on redoing the entire site (which hasn’t been updated since the program was founded. lol)

Great work!

This is just too funny! The truth is this exactly how the clients ask!

They’re still using the dang thing, too.
@Kim-
That.
Is.
Awesome.
That certainly takes the prize. Anyone else out there have examples of… (ahem) non-traditional logos?
So funny! And so true!
Thanks for the laugh!
A friend wants a logo twinkling toes. Little sparkles… around a foot. -_-
Same thing happens to me, the client wants some DNA for his IT company which is totally about information architecture. But we managed to do it though
I have been there and i managed to get inspired after i saw McDonald Logo, strange but sometimes walking alone can get you new ideas.
my fave was a client who is a doctor AND a contractor . . . one logo that says it all please. uh huh . . .
That should be a Freelance Switch contest.

I can’t say that I have ran into this in real live, yet. And I hope I don’t, at least not something as bizarre as that.
ha ha ha, Nice thought and nice illustration. But this is part of work and life.
