I both laughed and cried at this one because it’s so true.
I’m afraid I rolled my eyes because that’s exactly the sort of crap I’m into at the moment. In the future is either all or nothing with friends — either I completely volunteer, control the timeline, and deliver with a “take it or leave it” note; or we go through the full process, with full milestones, meetings, and of course pricing.
We’ll see how many friends I lose over this new policy.
Great strip as always.
Yip, we’ve all been there…
I really hate when that happens, I feel like turning into the hulk now
Wow! This is so true! Its happening to me all the time at work!
This is why you dont do “favors” for friends. It can be costly for both your wallet and your relationship.
/speaking from experience
I never design for friends. Ever.
Any conversation that starts out with “hey buddy” should immediately be considered dangerous.
I agree with Laura … anything with “Hey Buddy” and “It shouldn’t take…” is a huge red flag. For one, the person shouldn’t be telling you how long something will take, you should be telling them. And also, charge for everything. If you’re backed up, charge more. If they don’t hire you, oh well, you’ve got work already anyways. if they do hire you, you get that added bonus
and yes, never work for friends unless you follow Russ and do things by the books.
i have a friends who is whining that he doesn’t have enough income from freelancing, but by the time i offer him a job, this is exactly what happens and still every time i played at his house, he still whining the same issue, This is why i don’t ask friends a “favors”.
As said by P. Arthur Moore, laughed cause of the comic, cried cause of the truth. =b
Southpark cartoon: “My bad.”
Any design that lasts for 5 min should be billable.
And my day is much better now:)
I designed for my brother. What a nightmare. Everything you do not want in a client.
Yeah but just imagine how great it will look in your portfolio!
So… you fell victim to this as well?
“Knowing you, it should take 15 minutes tops…”
Then three hours later…
If you can call all the shots, do it your way and put a wicked portfolio piece in – then why not. But control the time naturaly. That is, if you don’t bill your ‘friend’.
Haha very true.
it should always be under an agreement even if the person is your closest friend just in case this things happen.
Another one right on that red spot in the middle of the target!
This is so very very true! Never work for friends. seriously I speak from experience.
maaaaaaaaan…so true!
How about to work for the family? Same thing happens to me!
Oh! What can I say, I am going through the same situation…
Haha this made me chuckle! Happens so often! Great work
