While I see what the cartoon is getting at, this kind of stuff is very discouraging for those of us starting out. I have been slowly working my way into graphic design over the years (as a HOBBY, not a business) and all I’ve been meet with is criticism (and I didn’t show any work!) and a general negative attitude. No one has been helpful with my inquiries, and since I didn’t go to school for it, it’s like I can’t be let into this little club.

It’s the snobbery of the industry and the people in it that turns people off, not the prices.

I wrote a similar sentiment in my blog. I have been in argument with this kind of attitude(anyone can be a artist/designer) stuff since college. Starting with my classmates who took up a course in Art because it’s the easiest course to enroll in. And more so now with the advent of computer graphic software, where you can call yourself a designer with a few clicks of a mouse.

110% true.. most of my friends bought this dslr camera and suddenly the called themselves Professional Photographers what the heck….. their portfolio doesn’t fit their title.
