N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.
I don’t even have the skills to recognize most fonts, but I cringe whenever I see one of the many signs with Comic Sans or similar. I remember seeing something like six businesses with Comic Sans signs along one road recently…
LOL yeah, this is definitely me. Although my husband is just as bad – he’s a cabinetmaker and critiques millwork all over the place. We’re horrible, but at least we’re horrible together.
ah well .. that happens everytime I visit a website. First things first, so it is [CTRL]+[U] – a habit I developed early; actually I was told about this one by the very people who helped me to my first impressions of the webdesign and development business
The “is it WordPress, Habari, Textpattern or Movable Type underneath”-spleen isnt far away, too (“Oh noo … its a Typo3! Who in his right mind would use Typo3 for a site with 5 fricking pages?!?”). Not to mention the ellongous rants about backwardness like spacer GIFs and layout tables being still in use, even by so-called design agencies.
Comic Sans & Papyrus is nothing compared to that ^^
I was the most impressed when my HUSBAND, who is not a graphics person, began to notice things like this because I talk about them so much. We were driving along the freeway and he pointed out a business that had a different font for each word in the three-word title, all on one line, and how horrible that looked.
Oh. Geez. Who hasn’t done this?

Most of us doing the same, me too…
I can never understand why the wife doesn’t get as worked up as me when we see Papyrus everywhere. It seems like a very natural thing to rant about
Haha, this is so true! Except that I’m the designer, and my husband has to listen to me critique each billboard we pass in the car
Love these comics!
Ha ha ha. Yup! That’s about right!
I thoroughly enjoy critiquing direct mail pieces and the handouts found in church pews. Simply priceless design.
Too funny! This is exactly why I hate going to the store. Admit it though, all us designers do it.
I’m gonna ask for my wife’s forgiveness NOW.

“A yoga studio using Papyrus…”
Having worked on yoga business design, this made me snort my coffee!
Yep that’s pretty much me and my wife driving around!
