  1. My *chef* is from France, and it’s his manner of conversation :)

  2. This is true even when you are in the same time zone. I had a client who consistently called me well after Midnight.

  3. Why the mood of people on all freelance freedom series are so frustrated? It looks like they aren’t happy with this way of life. And it seems like all scenes popularize lazy living. Is it the main reason why people switch to freelance? To sleep more and get unproffesional way?

  4. Got to love those calls. I had a client who was a nurse and would get off work at 5 a.m. and felt she needed to call to check on her projects at that time.

    It was awesome.

  5. I love having those 5 am meetings with teams in the east coast (when i’m in the west ). And they wonder why I’m not so engaged during them.

  6. Alexander,
I think all the freelancers will agree with me when I say that freelancing is definitely a great things. I absolutely love it. However, it’s really hard to satirize all of the good stuff that comes along with Freelancing, so the focus is the frustrating stuff. I think a benchmark for how good freelancing is is we are able to laugh at the bad stuff.

As for lazy…why get dressed up when we don’t have to? Finally- Freelancers are some of the most professional people because we are part of the entire design/development process, from negotiating to contract signing to launch. If our clients don’t see the professionalism in what we do, we don’t get the job. We don’t have some marketing guy or deal maker to get the jobs for us.

  7. *I apologize for my grammatical error-. (things = thing)

  8. I completely agree with you Joe. Freelancing is a GREAT thing! I’ve been freelancing full-time now for 5 1/2 years and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

I went through a phase where I felt like I needed to dress up but then I quickly realized that I was sitting in my office, at home, wearing dress pants and a button down shirt during the summer!?!? What was I thinking? ;)

In my experience, my clients stick with me not only for my knowledge and ability but mostly because of my character. When they know they’re dealing with someone that is reliable and that they can trust it makes projects (even problems that may come up) that much easier to deal with.
