N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.
Hmm, doesn’t the Ultra Unreasonable plan come with screen capture software that sends images of your work in progress to the client every 10 mins and sends them an alert when there’s no mouse activity for 15 seconds…
Sometime e-commuting can be worse that having a boss looming over your shoulder while you work.
“My estimate is that it will take 5 hrs, but that’s an estimate, not a guarantee. I charge $xx / hr. If it’s going to take more, I’ll let you know ASAP.”
Flat-rate jobs are terrible, especially for new freelancers. You almost always get fleeced, and you take all the risk. If you’re good, you shouldn’t put up with it.
sort of disagree with the “if your good” part, in my opinion if you are “good” you ask enough (and the right) questions to provide your client with an accurate scope of work. I actually prefer flat-rate jobs, but i am a web/flash developer and i always use a set project price with a detailed scope of work and provide an hourly rate for scope creep/add-ons. I would assume that more creative (design/writing) jobs would make more sense to quote hourly since you never know what the client will say or think!
Love it! This is so right on. It’s one of my most common hurdles.. making another persons imagination come to life. Plus some people just have terrible taste and I have a hard time doing what they want if that seems to be the case… My problem.
LOL , funny sketch:D
Haha awesome.
Good one! Especially the biggest plan!

Haha great comic. I think I know of a few clients that would want the Ultra Unreasonable plan but wouldn’t want to pay for it.
are you kidding right ? live webcam transmision should be included in all packages at no cost!
Here’s the best option:

Really funny!! Enjoyed it.
I actually have used a live feed of sorts (via yuuguu) for a client to put the finishing touches on a custom logo font…
I don’t recommend trying it
Great post and funny comic.

I’m used to do it but….. anytime the feedback is that the client always wants a discount on the lowest price!
