N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.
I found that as I got deeper into my consulting career, I lost most of my old friends from the workplace. The shared misery crap and the “working class hero” attitude turn out to be the binding force for a lot of workplace friendships.
Yeah I generally subscribe to the saying, “You are your own hardest boss.” Many of my employed web peers don’t envy me because they know I work directly with clients. They like the distance.
Another great comic strip! Two different careers with their own pros and cons. The best is to have a bit of both: the relative security of a job with some gigs on the side to keep your creative vein pumping.
OH!
One has not one boss, but many bosses, and each new one has his or her own quirks, not easy… the bunny slippers are a nice thing though.
Hahaha!
I believe sometimes clients can be more demanding that any boss, and its even worse when you have two or more demanding clients at the same time.
The client is the boss. Having different clients means having to deal with multiple bosses at one time.
I love my bunny slippers! Keep’ em coming…
No one will ever understand ’til they become freelancers themselves.
IT IS NOT EASY!
This made me laugh.
It is still better to be your own boss. You command, you execute
It´s much better to be your own boss, but it´s not in any way easier. But I would not go back to being an employee.
haha, it would be even greater if he had those bunny pajamas like the one from “a christmas story..”
It might be better to be your own boss, but I don’t think regular “employees” understand the extra pressure of it all..
More envy from clueless full time employee types.

Hey, we can often be our worse bosses. I made myself work 11 hours last Saturday…for no extra pay!
Haha…LOL
LOL! That’s great! XD
N.C. Winter for President… well, whenever the new term starts that is.

But I do like being self-employed, bumps and all.
At least a boss knows his way around a business, and thus knows what realistic expectations are. Most clients do not.

Freelancer would actually say to him:
“My client pushed back on the budget even though I have to redo the entire project, and I have to work the weekend.”
Freelancer can totally relate…
really?
again?
The SAME “im my own boss” joke??
N.C. has to get new material, this joke has been on the strips at least 8 times
So true. So misunderstood by others.
hahah good one.
hahah…love these comics
@gus: never mind, sir! for freelancers, this can never become out-dated ever!
So true… I allways get the evil eyes when I try to complain about my work…
