N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.
Linda it is fun yes. I have the same situation around here. And there is no problem with the comic strip, you just have to open your heart and mind to that.
When a baby arrives a whole new universe open up for us.
I hardly believe that N.C. Winters can bring some “teenageish” or “singleish” comic just to be funnier.
What I mean is: This is life as real and fun as you can get. If you are not related to it, you should look at this as advice and not the way you look, bored.
Not everybody has kids and not everybody hasn’t, so I think N.C. Winters is doing a pretty good job bringing us the fun of freelancing life, as it is, in a whole.
I don’t have any kids… You don’t have to ‘relate’ to it 100% to appreciate it. I don’t think this one is intended to be funny. I think it’s a great depiction of the struggles and joys of having your own child and being a ’stay-at-home working dad’.
Seems like every baby-related strip gets its share of haters. I don’t have kids, heck I’m not even married, but I totally get it and enjoy it. Keep it coming!
I have a baby as well and can totally relate to that! I usually do freelance work in the early mornings when she’s asleep and try to take care of her during the daytime. It’s stressing as heck but for me, it’s worth it!
I am expecting a kid in March – and am hoping to be able to work from home and have the kid around. My wife works from as well. I really hope that works, as the other alternative, being away from home for more than 8 hrs/day sucks!
I’m having my second kid in a matter of days… we are terrified (my wife and I are both freelancers) but we rather have the funny schedules and enjoy our kids.
CONGRATS to you and Ginger! Jackson is just too beautiful!
Few things come close to the overwhelming joy being a parent and holding your newborn for the first time.
I understand the bittersweet circumstances that you mentioned in your blog (my sister died the same week my son was conceived). I suppose that’s one of the catalysts to creativity – pain and joy.
I know the feeling, I have a 17 month old son and my office and his crib share the same room until we can move. So trying to work around his schedule is fun. My kids help me relax and sometimes even troubleshoot and problem solve when we are playing around.
A hard investment to get started but well worth it later.
My wife is 4 months pregnant, and I’m a stay-at-home freelancer. I’ve been following this blog and the comics for a couple years now, and I have to say that I can’t wait to see what’s new every Monday morning. Recently these seem to foreshadow my life and what is in store for me with a child on the way in a few months. Your strip really helps me see the lighter side and relate to someone who is going through it now! Thank you, N.C. Winters! Looking forward to next Monday
It’s tough, realizing your business and your parenting are direct competitors for your time. And it’s much, much harder once that dawns on the kids, too.
But in a way it keeps us honest. We do the work we do, not just to put food on the table, but because it fulfills us in some way. It means we are happier, more complete people… and to that extent, we are also better parents.
Of course, just because that’s true doesn’t keep it from sounding like a rationalization sometimes.
Really enjoyed this FF comic, the comments are more interesting then the actual comic seriously. It is really a fusy feeling to know that few fellow freelancers are 2-3 months away from getting to that point, and some of them already have 2-3 such clients. I am not yet married so I won’t be able to enjoy these clients for another 2 years at least.
This may come as a shock but… That’s not a client: that’s a 24 hour job!
Good luck with that my friend.
Congrats on the baby but not everyone has kids, dude. I usually enjoy your comics but lately they have all been baby related. No fun.

This is my very close future
Next week according the plan, but I’m expecting a delay

I can relate, but the flip side is that you learn to make really good use of the time you have. You also learn to operate with minimal sleep.
I am expecting a kid in March – and am hoping to be able to work from home and have the kid around. My wife works from as well. I really hope that works, as the other alternative, being away from home for more than 8 hrs/day sucks!
haha I can definitely relate to that, good one.

Have a ordinary, blah day, Migeul. Don’t get burned from the sunshine you spread. …sheesh.
Sorry, not married yet, but wish I had already
Another great comic. And even though I DON’T have kids, I can relate to these.

That’s hilarious…. that’s me right now — 3 weeks old.
Also the most rewarding client I’ve ever had.
may be its not that funny but its still good one
and it still relates me keep up
Grats on the new addition!
We have a “new client” arriving early next year as well – I’ll have to remember this line.
Congratulations.
It’s fun seeing things develop through the comic like this. Keep up the good work in both the strip and with the kid. ^_^
This guy’s kid reminds me of several of my clients.

Who’s the boss now?
Can’t post images…ok.
Well…look at this image.

ha! speaking from experience… that client should get a little easier to manage in about 3-4 years.
Good one, this made me laugh.

good one.
I know EXACTLY how this feels. I have three of those clients
I remember this stage well.

Get him a tablet and send him to work!
My wife and I delivered our baby boy in the passenger seat of our car, in the parking lot of the hospital – slightly ahead of schedule.

WOW man !! You talking about me !!
That is exactly my situation!! Only am the mother! Even worse! For the clients, that is..
I know some clients that can be just like that! lol!
Aw, congrats.
