N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.
mmm…wait, first, excuse me cause my english is bad, second, your comment maybe has a little tone of racism in the history of the humanity there weren´t only african slaves, there’re scandinavian slaves of the vikings, the slaves of the romans, the slaves of the egipcians, the aztec’s slaves, etc. And I believe the post is an example of the first I mentionated: the viking’s slaves.

You are completely off, it was indeed the romans and vikings that started this. And that used slaves for their ships. (especially the rowing).
If you want to make comments like this you should first learn the subject(s) before stating something that’s completely off and condemning another person for specifically that.
Also on that note, it’s a comic, it shouldn’t be taken as an insult no matter what.
This is sooooooo true! maybe one day I’ll get over it…
But I have learned a few things reading your articles so I’m not a slave anymore, but it’s hard not to work on weekends or until late every single day…
Good luck everyone! and don’t forget, try to have fun.
Of course we have to work evenings and weekends sometimes, but at least, I feel like I’m driving this ship instead of just being in it…
Nice strip man, as always!
For those of you in this situation, I cannot recommend enough reading ‘The 4 hour Work Week’ from author Tim Ferris. I have read a few months ago and plan to read it again soon.
In his book, Tim pointed many mistakes that I did and places where I was loosing a ton of time everyday. It sure made me think and helped me drop bad habits such as checking my e-mail 10 times a day, or browsing some websites, which are interesting, but made me loose my time.
If you want to free more of your time, grab a copy of ‘The 4 hour Work Week’ and read it. You won’t regret it.
I once heard the rather insightful quote that when you work for yourself you’re “trading the illusion of security for the illusion of freedom”. So true.
This is so true. I struggled with this for awhile, and finally had to buckle down on work more during the week and get across to my clients that just because I’m a freelancer doesn’t mean I’m available at the drop of a hat on a Saturday night to do a quick ad or whatever. It’s a bit better now.
It all depends on how much work you put in during the week, and quoting enough time on projects to give you enough time if you need to take weekends off or don’t want to sit in front of a computer screen until the wee hours of the morning.
I can soooooo relate to that.
I dread the call of “babe when do you think you’ll be knocking off”.
‘not sure, theres another problem with internet explorer compatibility’
grrr
There is huge difference between working for someone else and working for yourself on weekends. Everything is in point of view. Working for somebody on weekends may seem like slavery, but working for yourself has to be persistence, endurance or something similar.
Its really true man! sometimes i have started the work and the work seems to be like the one ship i am riding that i want to get over with it and not enjoying the work that i do….
Wow this comic is wildly inappropriate. Comparing a white business man to an African slave is pretty degrading.

@rafa, your message was easy to understand
Liked that comic btw.

I’ve been in this situation many times… Very frustrating…
Nice one

Better working late and be my own boss than working late for my boss.
And nice graphic!

LOL, that’s EXACTLY what’s happening with me today, and with TWO projects at the same time!
Sounds like Freelance Guy needs to reset a higher rate and take on less projects… but how to do that in this economy?
haha… not what I wanted to see when I came here looking for help in making the move to freelance!
hahahaha! It’s so true… sometimes clients can be worse than having a boss!
I just got over one such client recently…man this is so true
I can really relate to the situation, when you are neck deep with work and that is the perfect time friends drop in at home.
Liver disease is no laughing matter, and I thank you for taking the time to address this in your comic.
Being your own BOSS also means FREEDOM but that FREEDOM will be revoked if taken the wrong way!
Your WORK is most important and do it most willingly…
Its really true man! sometimes i have started the work and the work seems to be like the one ship i am riding that i want to get over with it and not enjoying the work that i do….
