Freelance Freedom #102

PG

N.C. Winters is always drawing. When he isn't making comics, doodling or working as a freelance graphic artist, he spends his time painting pretty pictures for galleries from his home studio in sunny southern California.

  1. Oh the joys of not knowing when you’ll get your next paycheck…maybe he can be a stay at home dad.

  2. PG Josh Corken

    Zing!

  3. PG Jason

Ha! That’s so true. Being prego is so great though…. our baby is just beginning to have dance parties and karate lessons… inside the womb.

  8. PG Stutts

    Mazal tov!

  9. PG Mike

This seems vaguely familiar … reminds me of a conversation my wife & I had … about 9 months ago.

Currently feeding one of my new twin daughters, while simultaneously typing one-handed, trying to apply a patch to a client’s server.

  10. PG Jon

Alright! I didn’t know if this was a joke at first but then I figured out there was no punchline and it must be true. Congrats

  11. PG Iris Chamberlain

Hmm, why is she so happy?! This experience obviously doesn’t exist in my world.

    :D

  12. PG Prescott Perez-Fox

    Talk about a side project!

  13. PG Amber

Well, you could have woken up to bad news.

  14. PG Erick

I haven’t experienced the feeling myself, however, Its something I think that is coming our way real soon… and I think that is what my face is going to look like when it happens…

  15. PG David Cousens

    Congrats NC!

  16. PG Adam

  17. PG CreativeNotice

  19. PG Matthew Hall

    Congrats!

  20. PG Kendall

    Stay-at-home-dads are the best!

  21. PG Felipe Caroé

Now, THIS ONE never happenned to me o.O

  22. PG Joel Falconer

Kendall — from experience I will tell you this: biggest. misconception. ever. ;)

  23. PG Steve Ireland

  24. PG Working for myself

Wow congrats NC… a scary moment I’m sure, but well worth it in the long-run.

  25. PG max

Congrats NC – I had my first son Noa a month ago – good luck finding a name !

And when plates start flying remember: it’s not that she’s mad at you, she’s just mad. ;)

  26. PG Beto

WOW Congrats NC!! I bet your face looks at that moment was priceless!

  27. PG gretchen

congratulations!! it’s a juggle, but freelancing and child raising is a perfect mix for me . . . 8.5 years and 2 kids. you are blessed!

  28. PG Allena

Panel 4: “Didn’t you just pee on that stick that you’re bringing into my bed?”
    j/k

  29. PG Jonathan

It was four weeks after the birth of our first daughter Noel that I walked out of my corporate job for the last day. It’s been 10 months since then and worth that decision. I haven’t yet made what my salary was but am building a business and have had countless memories of time with my family. I’ve been able to experience moments in my daughters life such as the first time she rolled over and crawled. In short it’s been an incredible blessing and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

  30. PG riki

No the fourth panel is me wondering if the baby with be a freelance designer or developer.

  31. PG Kate

Congrats. Now you get to work at home, with something crying all day. You can forget about those long stretches of just working. Hope you can juggle. Since I am sure that the economics of the situation would keep most people from using daycare. Unless you can pay them in websites. My advice is to get a reliable babysitter who can come for an hour or two in the middle of the day. Kind of a relief pitcher so that you can get work done.

  32. PG Martha Retallick

Agree with you on the relief pitcher idea, Kate. And another bit of advice: Never forget that you’re still married. My parents went out on date nights and left me with some super-cool babysitters. I’ll never forget how one sitter brought a book of paintings that depicted space travel. I was FASCINATED.

  33. PG jamesg

having kids and freelancing is great. i didn’t start the freelance life until my eldest was 2 (he’s 14 now,) and i gotta tell you – freelancing is a much better way to be a dad…

it’s a change, but it’s an awesome one. you’ll get a lot of inspiration from the little buggers.

you WILL be distracted. you WILL be sucked away at the worst possible moments. but – that’s only work. kids are much bigger, much better and much more important than work. and a helluva lot more fun!

(i think i might go jump on the trampoline with the 2 little ones now…)

  34. PG Tamixes

Wohoo! Time to upgrade your skillset! Multi-tasking is gonna take on a whole new meaning! Congrats 2 you both!

  35. PG dpi
  36. PG LydayCreative

Wow is this true!! CONGRATS!!!! If anything, it will make for some interesting comics ;)

  37. PG Donald R. Anderson

I take it that the freelance freedom will now have the perspective of a parenting freelancer?

  38. PG gus

LOL by the looks of it, its no good news :P

  39. PG Beto

this strip should be called now freelance “freedom” rofl, congrats man

  40. PG Tammy Hart

funny, i’m the freelancer AND the mom. I was mom first, but the freelancing definitely helps with availability. I also homeschool. it’s no wonder my posted “hours of operation” are noon to 6
