FSw Job Board Going Strong – 150 Jobs a month

About 9 months ago, we launched our paid freelance job board here at the ‘Switch. As you may know it’s an unusual job board because we actually charge the freelancers a subscription fee. At the time we caught a bit of flak for it but proceeded anyway believing in the idea.
$7 a Month for 5 Jobs a Day
9 months on and I’m happy to report the job board is still going strong and recently the number of jobs has been increasing slowly but steadily to the point where we have about 150 jobs coming in a month – or in other words 5 new jobs a day.
It costs $7 a month for a freelancer to subscribe and this gives you access to contact the job posters. The big question is, is it worth it? I think the way to look at it is that if you win one job it pays for itself for many months to come.
Happily the job board has been growing not only in job numbers, but also in subscribers and is paying for the site now. And soon will be paying for an upgrade to the whole site too!
Free Posting for Advertisers
Of course it’s a pretty good deal for job advertisers and that’s why we generally run more freelance jobs each day than most similar job boards. I know personally, because I advertise all our Eden freelance jobs here that the quality of respondents is great and I’ve found everything from WordPress designers to Javascript coders to a site manager for FaveUp there and been very happy every time.
Still here is a testimonial I saved a few months ago from an advertiser:
Also, just to let you know – other posting resources have about a 1/10 qualified candidate rate. Meaning for every 10 emails we push ourselves to look at we get one candidate that meets the needed qualifications. At freelanceswitch it has been 9/10 – and the nine don’t just meet the qualifications – they exceed them.
Visit Today
Anyhow this morning I thought it was about time to plug the job board, as it’s been a while. So if you’ve not been there, visit it today and consider subscribing, or if you have a freelance job you need taken care of, be sure to take advantage of the free posting.
If 150 isn’t enough jobs, you might also want to check out our Monster List of Freelance Job Sites.

How about getting some photographic gigs listed?
Would deffo subscribe then.
I know the small amount of money I’ve put into the job board subscription has more than paid for itself! It has done so well for me, that I went out and got a bunch of friends who are freelancing to sign up too. They’ve reported some pretty good success so far.
If you are not subscribed to the boards yet, get subscribed. Not to increase my competition or anything, but you’re doing yourself a disservice if you gloss over this because of the measly few pennies it costs!
I’m so satisfied with the boards that even though my workload is full at the moment, I’ll keep my subscription going for the long-term.
plan on subscribing when i do a freelancing stint in t-minus 9 days!
Congrats
I like that it lets you browse for free. Nice to be able to know you’re going to get something for your dollars.
thanks!
I have been very satisfied with my time with the FsW job boards. I find something to apply for nearly every day, and it consistently offers some of the best work that shows up in my feed reader. The $7/month is well worth it.
I’m definitely curious about the job boards, and since I have just started freelancing, any added work would be appreciated. I do have a question, however:
How applicable are the job boards to illustrators? Commercial illustration is definitely my focus and forte, so I would love it if I could find some illo work on FSw.
So how does one know if the job has been fulfilled?
Hi Karyl, we do have some illustration jobs. You can actually see the jobs listed without subscribing, it’s just the contact details that are hidden. So I would suggest just keeping an eye on them and if you see something worth applying for then you can always join then.
@Crazy wabbit: Job posters are able to go in and close their jobs. I’m not sure if many of them do, so generally you have a much better shot at going for jobs that are only a few days old (in my opinion).
@me: Photographic jobs are a good idea actually. I’ll ask Collis about it!
Thanks Cyan, I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on them then!
I’m subscribed too, and it has paid for itself within two weeks.
However, lately some jobs have cropped up that aren’t freelance jobs at all, but offer treadmill positions in the game development industry.
It would be good to enforce the policy here. I mean, an ad for a few months of exclusive contract work might still fit, but these guys seem to be looking for someone to become a permanent part of their company.
Thanks Cyan.
Just to give you an idea regards photography and recruiters. Since most photographers have an online portfolio, and briefs can be sent via email or discussed via skype, anyone can apply.
I recently did a food shoot in my kitchen, for an overseas print magazine. The art director had emailed the exact brief. I shot up to 4 options for her to select from, and uploaded the images to her site.
Look forward to seeing a Photography category soon…
Thanks!
@ Leslie: The policy I’ve been following is to accept any job that seems genuine and high quality. Sometimes the job might be a permanent position, but I figure a freelancer who is determined to remain a Free Agent just won’t apply for these! Considering about 95% of job ads posted are clearly freelance I figure it’s OK to let a few options through for someone who might be interested in permanent work. After all, the freelancers are paying to use the service so it can’t hurt to give them a wide range of options
.
Plan on subscribing to. Maybe i can earn some money
