I can't agree vehemently enough with the topic of this article. I'm a freelance graphic designer who started out as a copywriter you see, and while I like the artistic end even more than writing, bad copy can ruin a good campaign or cripple a great one.

One of the biggest pet peeves I have is bad grammar and/or punctuation in any printed matter, for whatever reason (unless you're demonstrating a good 'bad example'). This, in my humble opinion, makes the client look worse than stupid and condescending, makes the copywriter look like an idiot, makes the proofreader look uneducated and/or soon-to-be-unemployed, and the agency/artist the 'stupid glue' that ruined the whole campaign.

I grant you that as a degreed and experienced copywriter and graphic artist I may not be able to drum up a lot of work on my own here in Oklahoma (at least enough to bring in a good return on my time invested), but anyone who hires ME (or anyone like me) will love the attention to detail I bring to the table. Helping one's client look as smart (or smarter) than they want to show you they are is a HUGE selling point, and one I like to capitalize on.

Hey, my rates are reasonable, my mind is open and my ad copy isn't anywhere NEARLY as long as my blog entries!!!

Hi
Great article. Persuasion based selling works. There are many ways of closing real sales. I have written few such articles, I hope this will complement the thoughts of Shaun.

That was quite thought provoking. Realized that the simplest combination of copy and visuals can often be the most effective.
