I notice to see more and more 'one page' portfolio websites (http://www.onepagefolios.com/) and I like them a lot. You need to create something simple and focused when you only have one page. That's good. Probably all of the points in this article fit on one page for most freelancers. Contact, about me, hire me, all fit in a single short text in the header or sideline of your site. I think you should be able to show your work with nice large (full screen) images (especially for photographers) and it should be fun to create / update your portfolio.
