37 Unusual Examples of Business Card Design
Today we’re launching a redesign and refresh of our popular Creattica gallery of inspirational work. The site features almost six thousand items, many of which are just mind-bogglingly amazing. Anyone can submit work for inclusion to the gallery, and we pick the best of the best for showcasing.
Over the years the site has become the premier gallery for business card design and this post is just a taste of some of the more unusual examples we’ve got in the gallery. Scroll down to check it out, and jump to the end of the article to learn about the redesign and some of the new features now available on Creattica.
Creattica Design Refresh
A year ago we migrated our small Faveup gallery to its new home at Creattica and the site has been growing quickly ever since. The new design was an improvement, but it’s been showing its age recently, and it had an awful lot of bright red for a site supposed to be aimed at showcasing work. So we’ve given the logo a refresh, toned back the design so it’s more about the work and generally cleaned up the site.

Showcasing … Everything!
Today we showcase 3D, Advertising, Posters, as well as our old favourites: Business Cards, Logos and Websites. And with our redesign we’re adding a whole lot of new categories for Email Design, Mobile Design, Vector Graphics, Photo Retouching, Icon Design, Brochures, Book Covers, Tshirt Designs, Skate & Snowboard Art, and Desktop, iPad and iPhone Wallpapers.
If you’re interested in submitting to the new categories, be sure to check out our competition where you’ll be in the running to win $1000 in cash!
New Features
Of course a new design is not complete without lots of new features! So we’ve built in a lot of great new functionality, particularly focused around finding great creatives to work with:
- Search, Follow and Contact Creatives
The biggest update to the new site is the ability to search creatives who have been featured in the gallery. Creatives can specify their country, budget and profession as well as provide a website and contact details. We hope this will give designers and artists one more avenue to get freelance work! - Tagging and Colour Tagging
The new site now provides the ability to tag items with a set of preset keywords and colours. This will mean more ways to browse the gallery – once we’ve got some stuff tagged that is! - Extras – Badges + WordPress Plugin + Random Browse
And there are lots of little extras we’ve added including badges to show that you’ve been featured, a WordPress plugin to add creative inspiration to your blog’s sidebar and a feature to browse the gallery a little more randomly!
We hope you enjoy the new Creattica and get a wealth of inspiration from the amazing work of talented creatives around the world. This is a great roundup I have to say!
I already new them well from Creattica but this is a great selection – love it.
I must admin, I really think these are all great cards, BUT, its all a copy of whats been done before. I don’t have a better business card, but I like to see innovation. But I guess there might be only so many ways you can decorate a rectangle.
I love business cards and the impact they can have. I always try and stress to my clients the importance of a good business card. It doesn’t necessarily need to be an expensive spot UV – plastic – embossed – di-cut and gold plated! It just needs to be something that represents you in the best way possible. I actually think my favourite card here is the builders, with measurements along the side. Cheap to produce and makes you smile when you look at it … job done!
I totally agree, the builders one… the builders one is the only one I remember actually!
some of these are really great! i like the ones with cutouts that look (and probably feel) like credit cards. something for a top client maybe!
These are some very beautiful business and striking business cards that automatically make the recipients save and preserve them

I have been tempted to do some plastic cards but worried about the impact it has on the environment.
I understand what you mean. It can leave a negative impact on the environment and a negative impression to the person you give it too. A business card can say a lot about you. If ten years ago you were to hand out a plastic business card the recipient would think you were a stylish character who meant business! but now a days they just see someone who ‘doesn’t care about the world’ (brutal judgement but true). A clever idea with some carefully considered typography can work wonders!
Does anyone know who makes these types of cards? Are there companies out there that will take a design and create these, or are they mostly designed/printed by the company handling the branding?
Thank you!
Eric
It depends really. In my experience it tends to be if the designer/company who has an idea for a business card and needs to look around to see who can provide the best service. It’s always best to go to the person handling the branding before going to the printers. It’s about getting the best card to suit you and not necessarily the most expensive. The simple and clever ideas are usually the best.
Some are real fun!
I didn’t figure out the images are clickable for the fullview immediately at first though…
Awesome Designs
Might create few of these types myself.
Some of these looks like clothes label and some will be so expensive to produce and give away in bulk. Does it really serve the purpose of a business cards? Is it practical to do a card like that?
These cards are creative and eyecatching, yes, but IMO the only one that’s creative, eyecatching, AND well-designed is the bandage one which is brilliant. I’ll give the kerotudo one some slack because it looks like a business card for an artist. The rest do nothing for me.
Great cards with some very interesting concepts. Love the post!
Really nice collection! It’s so important to make a solid first impression. For as digital as things have gotten, no one seems to have mastered the “digital business card” yet. Particularly love the cassette tapes!
From a practical point of view, I think most of these cards just indicate that the one handing them out is not doing business seriously
- Whenever it takes more than a few milliseconds to identify the persons name, phone number or email adress (in readable format and font). -> not customer centered
- All kind of non-standard format, especially with parts standing out etc. prevent a card from being scanned with a business card scanner, put in a rolodex or just to fit them in a standard box to hold business cards.
- but most cards end in the trash anyway, because the data is entered in an organizer (e.g. daisho: http://www.daihso-blacksmith.com). So what’s the point to provide some plastic, metallic etc. material? High-end business-card paper (that’s a must) and a clean, readable design just do the job: to hand over your contact data.
You as a person must make the impact – if you don’t deliver on that, no fancy business card will help.
And if you make the impact, then the business card is just a way to express what you are: professional.
I admire the designers/artists who created those cards. They’re all magnificent!
As a designer, your card is way more than a source of information – it’s a micro-presentation of what your company is all about. In a couple of seconds, a person can see your design style, attention to detail and creativity… all without ever seeing your previous work.
A unique business is a must for the visual artist. Here’s my company’s:

Some really inspiring work here, nice post!
I am interested in the card that when you open the city sky line pops up. I am in real estate and I am looking for a creative business card that stands out.
Thanks for the inspiration… need to design my own business card… this has definitely helped me with some ideas
